Obituary of Spencer I. Sherman

On August 8, 2015, Spencer I. Sherman departed this world in his cherished home in Bay Head, NJ. Spencer was born on October 3, 1917 to Edgar I. and Grace Sherman in their home on Pine Bluff Avenue, Point Pleasant Boro. He proudly served his country during WWII from September 29, 1942 to February 15, 1946 in the Army Air Force. He was in the reserves for three years following his mustering out. He was a supply tech and a carbine sharpshooter and earned the American Theater Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Sherman was a licensed master plumber for most of his life and owner of Sherman Plumbing and Heating. The plumbing business was formerly owned by his father and he passed it on to his sons after his retirement. He was an avid dancer and would attend many dances in the area. His love of swing and jazz music knew no bounds. Spencer was a life member of Bay Head Fire Company. He was also a cub scout leader. Mr. Sherman is pre-deceased by his lovely wife Barbara, his sister and brother in law, Helen & Lloyd Johnson, his daughter in law, Joan Merrill Sherman and his beloved son, Allen Spencer Sherman. He is survived by his sons Tyler, Point Pleasant; Corrie and his wife, Triche, Point Pleasant; his daughter Wendy and her husband John Deter, Point Pleasant Beach. Spencer is also survived by his grandchildren; Jason Crane, Erin (Sherman) & Jim Cho, Jeremy & Suzanne Deter, Cory & Alaina (Maione) Sherman, and Jessica Deter & her fiancé Bryan Becker. He had three great grandchildren, Alexis Deter, Noah Cho and Brianna Becker. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Bay Head Fire Department. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 1:00pm at Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, 1120 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant, followed by a repast at the Bay Head Fire House.
