Obituary of Lillian Torode

Lillian Torode (nee Fischer), 94, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Friday, January 15, 2016 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born and raised in Elizabeth, she graduated from Battin High School and worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company. She always loved the shore and eventually made it her home, to raise her family, in 1959. She married, William W. "Bill" Torode in 1948 and had four sons, who also grew to love the shore. She was very proud of their lifeguard, scouting, education, military, career, and community involvements and readily shared stories about her family with friends. Lillian loved spending time with both her friends from Elizabeth and the shore, especially at Maxson Avenue Beach on the Manasquan River. She was a participant with the Glorious Years at Saint Peter R.C. Church and the Friendly Service Connection at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed opportunities for travel, entertainment, dining, and fellowship. For many years, Lillian was a poll worker for the Ocean County Board of Elections. Lillian was a registered Cub Scout committee member for many years with Pack 3. Her first "on the ground" tent camping experience was at the age of 70. She especially liked chaperoning museum lock-in overnights with the Cubs and tried to keep track of "her boys" as they matured into adulthood. For her support of Cub Scouting, she was recognized with the district Spark Plug Award. She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Frieda Fischer; sister, Fritzie; husband, "Bill" Torode; and grandsons, Eric and Benjamin. Surviving are four sons, Dennis and his wife Betty, Robert "Wally" and his wife Sheri, William "Billy," all of Point Pleasant, and Timothy "Tim" and his wife Gayle of Lake Como. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Cheryl Torode, Kimberly and husband John Debenidictis, Christopher Torode and wife Kelly, Robert Torode and wife Dessa, Megan, Katherine, Mathew, and Stephanie Torode, and Chelsea Carbone; and four great-granddaughters, Taryn, Ella, Paige, and Lilah. Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, a service will be held at the funeral home, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
