Obituary of Gertrude V. Mars

Gertrude Brarman Mars, of Toms River and Naples, Florida, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. She was born March 22, 1927 in Teaneck, New Jersey. After leaving the Teaneck area she moved to the shore where she resided in Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head. An active participant in the community, Gertrude was a former Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Point Pleasant Elks Lodge 1698 Auxiliary where she served as President. As a communicant of Saint Peter's R.C. Church in Point Pleasant Beach, Gertrude was a member of the Glorious Years group. Gertrude retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Point Pleasant Beach after twenty years of service. For fifteen years she served as secretary of the Jersey Shore Postal Union. Gertrude loved traveling the country with her husband, John, in their motorhome. Gertrude was predeceased by her beloved parents, John and Gertrude (Lingham) Brarman of Teaneck; brothers, Buddy and Billy Brarman of Teaneck; and sister Rose Battaglia of New Milford and Toms River. She is survived by her beloved husband, John R. Mars, Jr.; daughters June Willson of Toms River; Carol Sandke and husband, Ed, of Mooresville, NC; Barbara Barbarow and husband, Thom, of Indian Land, SC; brother Bob Brarman and wife, Amanda, of Teaneck; six grand-children, Melissa Willson of Brick; Adam Willson and fiancée, Samantha Forsberg, of Point Pleasant; Jason Sandke and wife, Jennifer, of Davidson, NC; Caylin Sandke and fiancée, Alex Bauld, of Whispering Pines, NC; Christopher Barry of Seaside Park, NJ; Daniel Barry of Indian Land, SC; and two great-grandchildren Aiden and Logan Willson. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 1 from 4-7pm at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 2 at 10am at Saint Peter's R.C. Church, 406 Forman Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Peter's R.C.
