Obituary of Robert F. Coon

Robert F. Coon, Jr., 77, of Brick, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016. Born in Jersey City to the late Robert F. Coon, Sr., and Theresa Waltz Coon, he lived there before moving to Brick forty-four years ago. For thirty years, Mr. Coon worked for Public Service Electric & Gas, Somerset, retiring in 1999 as an engineering plant assistant. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the mine sweeper, MSO 428, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed taking long drives with his wife, telling jokes, giving practical advice, fishing, vintage and classic cars, taking trips to Atlantic City, playing the tambourine with his son's band (and for anyone who would listen!), working with his son-in-law in the family business, and using duct tape to "fix" everything. Surviving are his beloved wife, of nearly fifty-six years, Rita (Tobin) Coon; son, Robert F. Coon, III and his wife Jennifer of Brick; and daughter, Denise Serpico and her husband Jack of Toms River. Also surviving are his brother, Kenneth Coon and his wife Nancy; three grandchildren, Alex, Christopher, and Allison; and friends. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Monday, May 23 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 24 a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Martha, Point Pleasant, followed by interment at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
