Obituary of Joseph M. Caccavale

Joseph M. Caccavale, 80, of Brick, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. Born in Newark to the late Nicholas and Angelina Caccavale, he was a long time Bloomfield resident before moving to Point Pleasant and later Brick. He wintered in Vero Beach, FL for many years. Mr. Caccavale worked as a self-employed commercial printer for many years. He served in the United States Army National Guard and was a communicant of the Church of Saint Martha, Point Pleasant. Joe had a fifty year career in sports, umpiring, officiating, and assigning. Beside his family, this was his other greatest passion. Through the years, Joe officiated baseball, soccer, and basketball. Upon retirement, Joe focused on assigning officials for high school soccer and basketball for Union County. This was one of the greatest joys of Joe's retirement. Joe was a member of SCOA and was named Man of the Year. He was a past president of North Jersey Board #33 of Approved Basketball Officials. He clearly had a passion. Surviving are his beloved wife, Eileen Tully Caccavale and four children and their spouses, Anthony & Tracey Caccavale of Roselle, Stephen & Patricia Caccavale of Point Pleasant, Maria & Bill Howard of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and Marc & Kristin Caccavale of Cranford. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Mia, Brian, Christopher, Matthew, Madeleine, Caroline, Vivienne, and Danielle; and great grandson, Lucas. Visitation will be from 2 – 6 p.m., Sunday, November 13 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 11 a.m., Monday, November 14 a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Martha, Point Pleasant, followed by entombment at Saint Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt.
