Cecelia Gesumaria

Obituary of Cecelia R. Gesumaria

Cecelia R. Gesumaria passed away at Sunnyside Manor in Wall Township, NJ, on January 24, 2017. She was born in Newark to Hugo and Angela Rinaldy August 7, 1926 and lived her elementary and high school years in Hillside, graduating from Hillside High School in 1944. After marriage in 1948, to Alfonse S. Gesumaria of Newark, Cecelia lived in Hillside and then 11 years in Kenilworth before relocating to Point Pleasant in 1963, where she resided for 44 years. She lived 10 years in the home of son and daughter-in-law, Thomas H. and Kim Gesumaria in New Egypt. Cecelia was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband of 47 years, and youngest son, Thomas. Cecelia mastered the skills of an executive secretary, including shorthand and composition of business correspondence. She worked at Bristol Myers in Hillside, and after taking time to start a family, returned to work as secretary to the Director of the Guidance Department at Point Pleasant Boro High School for 28 years. Cecelia took great care in preparing what can arguably be thousands of high school transcripts on which students rested their hopes for college admission, in addition to assisting in preparation of class scheduling and organizing conveyance of annual scholarship awards. A skilled homemaker, Cecelia became an excellent cook and seamstress, making much of her own clothing, an endeavor that brought her relaxation as well as beautiful clothes that she could not find in stores due to her petite size. (She was size 0 before the fashion industry invented size 0.) Above all, Cecelia was devoted to the health and well being of her family. Cecelia is survived by two sons, Robert H. Gesumaria (Judy) of Loveland, CO, Samuel Gesumaria (Jeanne) of Carmel, CA; daughter-in-law Kim Gesumaria of New Egypt, NJ; five grandchildren, Dr. Robert C. (Gus) Gesumaria (Lisa) of North East, MD, Anthony S. Gesumaria (Cara) of Belle Mead, NJ, Tomas A. Gesumaria, Angela S. Gesumaria, and Brittney Trevisan of Brick, NJ; and three sisters, Rose Marie Marucci, of Union, NJ, Elizabeth Bell, of Chatham, NJ, and Geraldine Brenner (Paul) of Union, NJ. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to long-term, live-in caregiver Sylvia Williams, and in the final months of Cecelia's life to the excellent care provided by the people at Sunnyside Manor. We treasure their every kindness. Visitation Monday, January 30, 2017, 9:00-10:30 AM, Pable Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742, (732) 899-3300.
