Garrett Giles

Obituary of Garrett W. Giles

Garrett William Giles, 68, of Toms River, passed away, Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Garrett had many fond memories of his childhood growing up in Lodi, especially, playing ball with his best friend Mike. Part of his childhood, he lived in West Paterson on "Garret" Mountain, "William" Street. Garrett started singing at a very young age and made several television appearances. His love for music continued as a teenager and adult as a vocalist in bands such as Sassafrass, Monzuka, Travis-Justis, Majyk and The Pilgrims. His latest "gig" was singing on a dinner cruise ship circling Manhattan in a band called, "Another Brother". Garrett was also an established sports artist. His artwork brought him fame; Lawrence Taylor video, a personal signing with Martina Navratilova and his paintings displayed on QVC when Joe Montana retired. He was also very generous in sharing the prints of his paintings with people he came in contact with. Garrett also had a great love for his country, Washington, D.C. as well as battleships & submarines. He volunteered as a tour guide for the USS Ling. His greatest love was for family and friends. Garrett was a wonderful husband, son, dad, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and cousin. He loved his wife's family, his NJ cousins, Marie and Lenny, his nephew Shawn and wife, Danielle, his nephew Jeff along with his Aunt Betty and his entire Midwest family. He cherished his memories with all of them. He was very grateful for all the love, help and support from his sister-in-law's, Linda and Gail and cousin, Marie. Over the past year, Garrett and his mother-in-law shared a very special bond that will always be remembered. A special part of Garrett's life were his four cats, Oscar, Pearl, Rosie and Humphrey. No matter where Garrett went, he made friends and most were lasting friendships; so much so, that he was "another brother" to many… Billy, Joel, Jimmy, Don, Ron and Tom just to name a few. Garrett was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Concetta Giles; brother, Ray Giles, stepmother, Dorothy Giles and cousin, Lenny. Surviving are his loving wife of twenty-three years, "Emme", Marjorie Norkus Giles; three children, Garrett, Michael, and Andrea; two stepbrothers, Doug and Greg. Garrett was also blessed with six grandsons and one granddaughter. Garrett loved to share his and Emme's love story. He cherished their getaway weekends to Philadelphia and especially the Amish Country. He found serenity in their lifestyle. He was a loving man and we are heartbroken. He will always remain "unforgettable." Saturday, March 25th at 10 a.m., a Memorial Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Peter's Church, 406 Forman Avenue, (corner of Saint Louis Avenue) Point Pleasant Beach. Following will be a celebration of Garrett's life, 11:30 a.m. at Reef and Barrel, 153 Sea Girt Avenue, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers or donations, please join us in celebrating Garrett.
