Obituary of Edward Charles Bergen

Edward C. Bergen, 90, of Brick, passed away, Monday, March 20, 2017. He was born on October 24, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Herman and Pauline Bergen. In 1934 his family moved to Osbornville, Brick. He graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1947 after returning from two years of service in the United States Navy during World War II. From 1947-1967 he was employed by the Ship Chandlers, Inc., a boating and fishing equipment store in Point Pleasant Beach. In 1970 he went to work for Bell Labs, Holmdel, and retired in 1990. A long-time resident of Point Pleasant Borough, Ed served on the Board of Education during the construction of the high school. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 196, Point Pleasant Beach, and Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant. He was predeceased by his son, Alan; and brothers, William and James. Surviving are his beloved wife of seventy years, Mary (nee Power); three sons, Thomas of TX, John and his wife Ann of VA, and David and his wife Sharon of Point Pleasant. Also surviving are his sister, Helen Laird; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. At Noon, Saturday, March 25 a memorial service will be held at the Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, 1120 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant.
