Obituary of Harold L. Burd

Harold L. Burd, 81, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Born on April 4, 1935 to the late Harold and Frances Burd, he was raised in Pequannock and nicknamed, "Bim" to many who knew him. He graduated Butler High School, and then joined the United States Army, serving sixteen months in Korea with the 7th Division. He started Turnpike Landscape Service and eventually went to work at New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company where he worked for twenty years as a supervisor in the claims department. In 1978 he purchased Putt Putt in Point Pleasant Beach and built batting cages, changing the name to Putt and Batt. Harold loved boats, deep sea fishing, pickup trucks, and his family. He was a hardworking man all of his life and always was ready to help family and friends when needed. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who lived his life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; three daughters, Laurie Stigliano and husband Scott, Lisa Meslar and husband Jim, and Wendy Hill and husband Rowan; and five grandchildren, Michael Stigliano, Krista, Doug, and Steven Meslar, and Gabriella Hill. Also surviving are four step-children, Michelle Straniero and husband Mike, John Volpe, Salvatore Volpe and wife Denise, and Leslie Volpe; his dear friend, Joe Zapico; and eleven step-grandchildren, Ashley and Mike Straniero, Nicholas, Jason, and Margarita Volpe, and Elaina, Alexa, Erica, Dianna, Salvatore Jr., and Charles Volpe. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, March 24 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 25 a committal service and entombment will take place at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
