Obituary of Kenneth A. Bergmann, Sr.

Kenneth A. Bergmann, Sr., 87, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Ken was born in Lyndhurst, NJ. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran and graduate of the Newark State Teachers College. He later earned a master's degree from Georgian Court University. Ken was a retired elementary school teacher of thirty-three years from Lakewood Public Schools. He was a former camp director of the Brookville Scout Reservation for the Boy Scouts of America, Jersey Shore Council. He taught swimming and life saving for the Y.M.C.A. and the American Red Cross. He also worked summers as operator of the train ride at Jenkinson's Boardwalk, Point Pleasant Beach. Ken, known to his family as "Gramps," enjoyed being with his grandchildren, music, reading, his dog Heidi, and the outdoors, especially looking out over the water from his backyard in Point Pleasant Boro. A mantra he lived by was to "Climb every mountain...Ford every stream...Follow every rainbow...Till you find your dream." He was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty years, Charlotte G. Bergmann; brother, Warren Bergmann; sister, Mildred McElroy; and son-in-law, William G. Luell, III. He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Thomas Mahon of Point Pleasant, Jennifer and her husband Frank Ruzicka of Easton, PA, and Kathleen Luell of Point Pleasant; one son, Kenneth A. Bergmann, Jr. of Toms River; and three grandchildren, Sara, Melissa, and William G. Luell, IV. In accordance with his wishes, services will be held during the summer at the Butternut Valley Cemetery in Burlington Flats, NY.
