Obituary of Richard H. Heim, Sr.

Richard H. Heim, Sr., 67, of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Born in Newark to the late Henry and Evelyn Heim, he lived in Glen Ridge, West Orange, Brick Township, and Toms River before retiring to Murrells Inlet two years ago. Mr. Heim attended both Saint Benedict's Prep, Newark, and Upsala College, East Orange. He worked for the Essex County Probation Department, and the Internal Revenue Service. He retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Trenton, where he worked for many years as the liaison for Medicaid and as a Physician Recruiter for the State of New Jersey. Rich was a soccer fan and coach for numerous years. He was active with the Brick Soccer Association and was a former president of Twin County Soccer for many years. He has enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play and share his passion for the sport. He was an avid fisherman, boater, and NY Yankee fan. Rich was the Vice Commodore for Cozy Cove Marina, Toms River, before moving to S.C. He loved his model trains and shared his enthusiasm with his children and grandchildren. Rich also enjoyed going up to Seaside Boardwalk to watch his grandchildren's excitement on the rides and Friday night sausage and pepper sandwiches from Midway. Throughout his life, Rich spent many hours on the beach surfing and fishing. Once Rich and Maryann retired and moved to South Carolina, he continued to be active. He was on the board of the HOA where he lived. He loved taking bike rides with Maryann and spending time at Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington State Park. He loved to plan out activities for his family when they came to visit. Rich is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of forty-six years, Maryann (Anderson) Heim; two sons, Richard H. Heim, Jr. and wife Amy of Malta, NY, and Christopher Heim and wife Kim of Toms River; and two daughters, Alison Salvucci and husband Joel of Shrewsbury, MA and Melanie Barger and husband Jon of Brick. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Meghan, Emily, Ethan, Emma, Lilly, Drew, Avery, Declan, Brynn, and Cade Richard; his rescue dog, Buddy, and many close friends and family. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Thursday, June 22 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 9 a.m., Friday, June 23 a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Dominic R.C. Church, Brick.
