Joseph Pennewill

Obituary of Joseph R. Pennewill

Joseph R. Pennewill, of Whiting, passed away, Tuesday, October 3, 2017 Joseph R. Pennewill was born in Ware, Massachusetts on July 14, 1933. Shortly after that he moved to Bergen County, NJ, where he grew up with his parents Raymond and Lillian Pennewill. Though his father passed away while Joe was still young, he was able to instill his love of baseball and football in him. Joe turned out to be a very talented baseball player, catching the eye of both Yankee and Dodgers scouts. Unfortunately, he was sidelined by an illness, and was unable to continue playing ball. Joe did not let this deter his passion for life, but rather made him aware of how precious life was. He married Francesca Corallo and had one daughter, Jacqueline, who he called the "the light of his life". Wanting to pass on to his daughter, what his father taught him about baseball he took Jacqueline to a baseball field one day where he was teaching her how to throw the ball from centerfield to home plate. After a while of doing this, Joe yelled out to her, "You throw like a girl!" To which she yelled back, "I am a girl!" Joe was always there when his daughter or a friend needed him, always with a smile on his face. You also could say he was always the life of the party, the first to raise a glass of wine, and always happy to debate the greatness of The New York Yankees, and the New York Football Giants. Joe loved watching and discussing football and baseball with his son-in-law Pete Konczal and loved his walks on the boardwalk with his grand-dog Shadow and his grandson Bodhi Frances Pennewill Konczal. The paint has dried in his room in heaven… Visitation will be from 2 – 6 p.m., Sunday, October 8 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.
