Obituary of Jennie Mae Durrua
Jennie Mae Gordon Durrua, 83, of Brick, passed away, Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in the home of her oldest daughter, Margaret Durrua Rice of Onancock, VA.
Jennie was born in Wisconsin on September 26, 1934, the daughter of the late Raymond and Catharine Gordon. She was the third child of seven children. At the age of 17 she came to Point Pleasant and then Brick where she lived for the rest of her life.
Jennie was a successful, self-employed entrepreneur and owned and operated Wenke's Motel, Point Pleasant, and Tip Top Cabins, Brick.
She was predeceased by her son, Jon Raymond Durrua; daughter, Amy Durrua East; and grandson, Shane Dean Savannah.
She is survived by her children, Margaret Durrua (Ronnie) Rice of Onancock, VA, Edmund Eugene Durrua, III of Onley, VA, Polly Durrua Custis of Belle Haven, VA, Kathleen Shannon of Brick, David Mel (Jamie) Durrua of Moshem, TN, and MaryEllen Durrua Hishon of Point Pleasant. Also surviving are her brother, John Gordon; two sisters, Dorothy Adella Gibbons and Sandra Hess; thirty-one grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., Monday, January 22 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 23 a service will be held at the funeral home and followed by interment at Lauralton Baptist Cemetery.
