Obituary of Lorna C. Williams

Lorna Carol Williams, 77, of Toms River, NJ, died on August 28, 2009 at home. Lorna was born in Suffern, NY to Richard and Violet Mihalko. She attended Brick Church School and graduated from Spring Valley High School. Her family moved to Oneonta, NY where she graduated from SUNY at Oneonta. She completed her graduate degree at Hunter College of the City University of New York in 1970. Lorna lived in New City, NY and then Monsey, NY; teaching in Clarkstown Central Schools of Rockland County, where she retired after thirty two years. Lorna served as an elder of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where she was active in Presbyterian Women, having been past moderator. She served as a trustee for Historic Allaire Village and president of the Allaire Auxiliary. Lorna enjoyed playing bridge for over fifteen years with her "bridge girls" and tennis at Beaver Dam and the Woodlands. She camped all over the northeast for many years with the "Farkels", her special friends from school. Lorna is survived by her husband, James Williams; son, Richard Katt and wife Sandra of Stony Point, NY, granddaughters Tara & Keri Katt, and grandson Daniel Katt; daughter, Robin Alba of Stony Point, NY, grandson Ronald Alba; step-son, James Williams and wife Carol of Tequesta, FL, grandson Brian Williams and wife Cari, two great-grandchildren Kelsey and Alex; and step-son, Gregory Williams and wife Jill of Glen Ridge, NJ, grandchildren Zachary Harrison and Parker Williams. She also is survived by sister, Joyce Trainor and brother-in-law Rev. Tom Trainor of Tuckerton, NJ. She was predeceased by niece, Elizabeth Malayter and is survived by Elizabeth's husband James of State College, PA; also survived by nephews, Peter and Debbie Trainor of Williamsburg, VA, Andrew and Cheryl Trainor of Scotia, NY, and Kenneth and Christine Trainor of Hawley, PA; aunt Mildred Hall of Pitman Manor; and cousins Marjorie Bell of VA, and Janet Simmerman of Pitman, NJ. At 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, a memorial service will be held at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception at the Greenbriar Woodlands Club House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Bay & Forman Avenues, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742 or to the Auxiliary of Historical Allaire Village, PO Box 220, Allaire, NJ 07727. A private cremation was arranged by the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant.
