Obituary of Maryellen Lurie

Maryellen (Mel) Lurie, 80, of Point Pleasant, died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at The Van Dyke Hospice, Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. Born in East Orange, to Sarah and Eugene Stack, Mel was raised with her brothers Eugene, Donald, and James (all now deceased). She was happily married for fifty-eight years to Victor L. Lurie, who died in September 2004. They lived in North Jersey and Pennsylvania for many years. For the past twenty years, they lived in Brick and Point Pleasant. A full-time homemaker, Mel leaves seven accomplished children: Mrs. Kathleen Griswold of Point Pleasant Beach, Mrs. Sally Rowland of Scotch Plains, Ms. Maryellen Lurie of New York City, Mr. Victor Lurie of Woodbridge, Mrs. Nancy Franzese of Maryland, Mr. Mark Lurie of Point Pleasant Borough, and Mr. Timothy Lurie of Point Pleasant Beach. Her much loved in-laws are: Richard Griswold (deceased), Robert Rowland, Janine Lurie, Robert Franzese, and Michelle Lurie. She was blessed with fifteen precious grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mel was particularly grateful that these dear friends were part of her life: Helen Yankaskas, Irene Klizas, and Margie Reamer. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday, October 25 at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 11 a.m., Monday, a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Peter R.C. Church, Forman & Saint Louis Avenues, Point Pleasant Beach. Interment at the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for The Shrine of Saint Joseph, c/o Father Peter Krebs, S.T., 1050 Long Hill Road, Stirling, NJ 07980.
