Obituary of Harry W. Newman

Harry William (Buddy) Newman, of Point Pleasant, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 at home. Born in Perth Amboy to the late Roy and Florence Newman, he graduated from Perth Amboy Schools and entered the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He then graduated from Seton Hall University in 1951, with his B.S. degree. Buddy worked for thirty years as an iron worker for Local 373, Perth Amboy, retiring as a foreman. He owned and ran a bar/restaurant, "Grandma's" in Moretown, VT; dabbled in real estate, poetry, and wrote his autobiography, "The Corduroy Road." Always the entrepreneur and ultimate salesman, he also bought and sold architectural antiques for many years. Buddy had a love for adventure and enjoyed many excursions to Spain, England, and Puerto Rico. He made and kept many good friends along the way. Following in his grandfather's steps, Bud had a green thumb and loved to work in his English style garden. He was always kind to animals and folks down on their luck. Bud is remembered as an honorable, moral, and loving family man. Surviving are his loving wife, Barbara; adoring niece, Jacquelyn (Jackie Lee) Wright; and cousin, William Newman. He was predeceased by his sister Florence Such. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., Wednesday, October 28 at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. Cremation will be held privately. As an expression of sympathy, donations made in his memory to the Jersey Shore Animal Center, 185 Brick Boulevard, Brick, NJ 08723 are suggested.
