Obituary of Catherine K. Brewer

Catherine K. Brewer, 89, of Point Pleasant, died, Friday, November 6, 2009 at home. She was born and raised in Irvington and lived in Union before finally residing in Point Pleasant for the past thirty years. Catherine worked as a librarian for ten years in Union and for fifteen years as a school secretary at Franklin School, Union. In 1975, she graduated with a B.A. degree in Special Education from Kean College, Union, and received her Masters in Early Childhood Development in 1980, also from Kean. She began teaching in 1975 at Kohler School, Linden and until her retirement in 1995, was at Easter Seals, Lakewood. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael & Esther (Lafferty) Kaiser; her sister, Evelyn Kaiser; and by her brother, Jerome Kaiser. Surviving are her daughter, Johanna Harvey and her husband William of Point Pleasant, three sons, John Karatz of Durham, NC, Stephen Karatz and his wife Lourdes of Trenton, and Michael Karatz of Point Pleasant; six loving grandchildren, Diane Szymanski and her husband Gregory, Susan Rowe, Matthew, Rachel, Christopher, and Jessica Karatz; and seven beloved great-grandchildren, Ashley & Brittany Szymanski, Tyler, Dylan, and Trevor Rowe, Tabitha Karatz, and Jordyn Leiber. Friends may visit from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., Monday, November 9 at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 9 a.m., Tuesday, a service will be held at the funeral home, followed by entombment at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
