Obituary of Bessie W. Cook

Bessie McPherson Cook, 96, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Friday, January 22, 2010. Born in White House Station, to the late George McPherson & Katherine Hockenbury McPherson, she has lived in Point Pleasant for over sixty-five years. Mrs. Cook was a retired Registered Nurse and had worked at Point Pleasant Hospital and later Cedar Bridge Medical, Brick. She also worked with her husband at their cigarette and novelty stand on the Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk. During World War II, she proudly served her country by working at factory as a "Rosie the Riveter." An avid gardener, Mrs. Cook was also a member of the Point Pleasant Chapter of Deborah Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, George P. Cook; her daughter, Nancy Fletcher; her son-in-law, Craig Fletcher; four brothers, John, Leslie, Harry, and Paul McPherson; and two sisters, Margaret Baldwin and Katherine Rockafellow. Surviving are three grandchildren, Tracey Stewart and her husband Sean, Jeffrey Fletcher and his wife Naomi, and Karen Wolejeza and her husband Jimmy; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Liam, and Nate Fletcher. Friends may visit from 6 - 8 p.m., Monday, January 25 at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road (732.899.3300) where at 7:30 p.m. a service will be held. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle, will be held privately.
