Obituary of John Joseph Hanf

John "Jack" Joseph Hanf, Sr., 72, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Wednesday, February 10, 2010. Born in Elizabeth, to the late Casper & Mary (Miller) Hanf, he had lived in Union and Colts Neck, moving to Point Pleasant in 1979. Jack had worked in manufacturing management for the American Can Company and retired from the Milton Can Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and the D.A.V. Jack was also a member of the Bay Head Shores Property Owners Association and life member of the B.P.O. Elks, Point Pleasant Lodge. He was an avid fisherman, boater, and during his youth was an accomplished, award winning equestrian. Surviving are his beloved wife of forty six years, Eleanor F. (Refinski) Hanf; two sons, John J. Hanf, Jr. and his wife Suzanne and Michael Hanf, all of Point Pleasant; two sisters, Mary Louise Kirchner and her husband Roy and Ellen McNeil and her husband Steve; his aunt, Helen Schauler; and three grandchildren, John Henry, Justin, and Jack. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., Monday, February 15 at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 16 a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head. Interment at Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
