Obituary of Alice Marie Miller

Alice Marie Pritchett Miller, 93, of Point Pleasant Beach, passed away, Friday, April 28, 2017. Born in Cary, GA to the late James and Ada Pritchett, Marie has lived in Point Pleasant Beach for seventy five years. She graduated from Cochran GA High School in 1940. Then in 1942 her and her sister decided to move to Cape May, where she met Chester Thomas Miller and they were married on April 8, 1943. She joined Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church in 1946. She was a member of the United Methodist Women; volunteered at the thrift shop for thirty years; and was the president of the Deborah Circle for fifty years. A plaque now hangs in the halls of Harvey honoring her years of service to the church. Marie also served on the auxiliary of Point Pleasant Fire Company #1; was a member of the Golden Circle for forty years, where she was the treasurer; belonged to Glorious Years of Saint Peter Church for ten years; belonged to the Beehive at Saint Martha Church; and worked on the Ocean County Election Board for over twenty years. She was also very active on the PTA when her children were in school and rotated being a Classroom Mom for each one, each year. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, of fifty-eight years, Chester Thomas Miller in 2001. Marie loved flowers, loved to travel, read, do crossword puzzles, and eat at Vic's Pizza. She is survived by her son, Donald Miller and his wife Kathleen of Sea Girt; and two daughters, Mary Anne Schafer and her husband Tom of Monmouth Beach; and Sandra Havens and her husband Jeff of Point Pleasant. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Heather, Thomas, Jonathan and wife Megan, Lauren, Kevin and wife Christine, Kurt, and Lindsey; her great grandson, Jack; her niece, Debbie and husband Dave; and many friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at the Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, 1120 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to either the Point Pleasant Beach First Aid Squad or to Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church.
