Obituary of Meredith "Mert" Pearce

Meredith “Mert” Pearce, 95, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Friday, June 1, 2018.

Mert was a native of Point Pleasant, being born there on March 2, 1923 to the late DeLos and Bessie Pearce.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of Sgt. Tech. and served in France, Germany, and Austria during hostilities.

He was former Senior Vice President and Director of Ocean Federal Savings Bank, retiring in 1983 after being employed there for thirty years.   

He was a member of V.F.W., Post 15031 and American Legion Post 196.  Mert loved the outdoors and spent much of his spare time walking, golfing, or fishing. He was a member of the Shore Surf Club, for over twenty years, and Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church for over fifty years, serving on many committees during that period.

He was extremely proud of his family.

Surviving are his beloved wife, of nearly seventy-one years, Irene (Moeller) Pearce; and two daughters, Linda Akerberg of Point Pleasant and Nancy Veltre and husband Dennis of Brick.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Kristy, Dana, Timothy, and Kevin; niece, Barbara DiGironimo.; and sister-in-law, Roberta Applegate. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marjorie Baker and Laura Hiske.

Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., Monday, June 4 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.  At 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 5 a service will be held at Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church, 1120 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant, followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
