Obituary of Joseph Edward Tomkus
Joseph Edward Tomkus, 47, of Forked River, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019.
Born in Newport, RI to the late Edward Tomkus and Jody Tomkus Elmore, he grew up in Point Pleasant and lived there until moving to Forked River.
Joe was a graduate of Point Pleasant Borough High School, Class of 1990, and of Western Governors University, Utah, with a B.A. in Information Technology.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran earning the rank of Lance Corporal and worked as a self-employed information technician.
Surviving are his wife, Susan L. Thomson Tomkus; two sons, Luke J. Tomkus and Joseph G. Tomkus; brother, Michael Tomkus; and two sisters, Kristie Williams and Wendy Acevedo. Also surviving are his aunts, Vicky Gordon and Patty Prouty; uncles, Dave Tomkus and Bill Owens; mother-in-law, Marilyn Thomson; father-in-law, Franklin Thomson; sister-in-law, Michelle Thomson; his father’s widow, Julie Tomkus; one nephew; four nieces; and friends.
At 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 10 inurnment, with military honors, will take place at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Arneytown. (Those attending may meet directly at the cemetery by 11:15 a.m.) A memorial gathering will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Friday, January 10 at the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company No. 2, 614 Laurel Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach. All are welcome.
