Obituary of Lillian E. Dunnigan

Lillian E. (Leavitt) Dunnigan, 96, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020 at her daughter's home.

 

Born and raised in Parsonsfield, Maine, she resided in Point Pleasant since 1969.

 

Mrs. Dunnigan worked as a legal secretary for many years in Manhattan, and with the Tax Office for Point Pleasant Borough until her retirement.

 

She was a United States Navy WAVE, World War II veteran.  After the war ended she married James Dunnigan, a United States Army World War II veteran.  She was a member of the American Legion, Toms River.

 

Lillian was an avid NY Yankees fan and loved horseracing and going to Monmouth Park.  She had a great love and respect for all animals and especially enjoyed being a savior of many abandoned furbabies throughout her life.

 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James V. Dunnigan and by her parents, Fred and Elsie Leavitt of Parsonsfield, Maine.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Lemanowicz and her husband, John of Point Pleasant.  She is also survived by her sister, Helen Peterson of Kennebunk, Maine, and her nieces, Brenda and Elaine Peterson.

 

Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle, was held privately.
