Obituary of Bruce J. Sutphen, Sr.
Bruce J. Sutphen, Sr., 72, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 after a courageous and long battle with cancer.
Bruce was born and raised in Bay Head to the late William H. and Margaret Sutphen. He was a long-time resident of Point Pleasant and was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School and Ocean County College, Toms River.
Bruce was a member and Ex-Chief of Bay Head Fire Company No.1 and the Point Pleasant Fire Department, Station 75 for over fifty years and was also a member of the New Jersey State Exempt Firemen’s Association.
He was employed for many years as manager of Beaver Dam Hardware, where he retired.
Bruce will forever be remembered for his lifelong dedication to the Fire Department. He also loved fishing, bowling, and spending time with his family.
Bruce is survived by his son, Bruce Sutphen Jr. and his wife, Maria of Brick; and his daughter, Denise Sutphen-Rhoades and her husband, Craig of Colorado. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Todd Sutphen, Cindy Salas and her husband, Ernie, Stewart Sutphen and his wife, Nancy, Nancy Tedder, and Laura Jane Bandy and her husband, Dennis; step-mother, Janet Sutphen; grandchildren, Lucas, Trevor, and C.J.; and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Memorial visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., Friday, February 26 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. where at 6:30 p.m. a service will be held. (Facial coverings are required and adherence to social distancing will be in effect. Due to attendance limitations, those attending the visitation are kindly asked to greet the family and then exit the building.)
