Dear Hanna,
Our heartfelt prayers go out to you, Mark and Alex as you cope with life without Allen at your side. It is difficult for us to imagine not being able to drop a call to see how things are going, or to celebrate school reunions. Allen was Leo's very close friend from their student days at Irvington High School. I have vivid memories of meeting Allen every Friday after Orchestra rehearsal at Evangel Baptist Church, where I, with Leo, and a few friends would meet to discuss music, current events and especially theology. Of course, Allen, was the one who excelled in all things theological - but even then, Allen's concern for the troubled, the ignored, the suffering, exhibited mercy and care that was unusual for one so young. That balance between intellectual pursuit and practical care would be the hallmark of Allen's lifestyle. Our prayer for you is that good memories of a life well lived, will supplant thoughts of the difficult recent years and your present sorrow. May you be comforted, as well, by the confidence you have been an amazing life partner.
Much love,
Leo and Elaine Thomas

Hanna and Mark, our prayers are with you at this difficult time. Bless you, Hanna, for being an excellent wife and friend; Mark, you have been a true support to your parents, and God will honor your love for them.
Allen was a true spiritual father and mentor to Russ and me; he taught us biblical truths that have stayed with us for many, many years. He taught us Reformed theology, which we hold to now. But his Christian service went far beyond any confines of a particular theology. We are truly thankful for the gentle spirit and Christian love he demonstrated as we grew from spiritual babes into a knowledgeable faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We learned so much, and we often refer to him when we are teaching or sharing in fellowship. His heart was full of love for his Savior to the very end, and we know he is rejoicing before his Lord even now. Well done, good and faithful servant! Much love to you, Hanna and Mark!

As mentioned in the obituary, I am one of the blessed who was led to Christ by Rev. Al and later followed his footsteps into ministry. Never the tallest man in the room, he was a giant to me growing up. On one night in particular, he committed an act of bravery on my behalf that ended up being a major turning point in my life. He and Hanna also filled out the foursome on my first date with my wife on a Youth Group outing to Pitch and Putt. They could not have been more gracious and kind and Susan and I have often mentioned them in our story. How grateful I am that the Lord brought him into my life and used him in such meaningful ways in the lives of so many.

It is difficult to describe, in a few words, the impact Allen had on my life. He was a great friend, a trusted Pastor, an inspiring and gifted teacher (I quote him regularly), and mentor. I treasure the memories of the years Allen and I spent serving the youth at First Presbyterian Church in Dunellen. I will forever be thankful for the privilege of knowing him. Yes, indeed, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Rev. Al was a kind, gentle, and insightful mentor on my way to pastoral ministry. I still remember the night a 25 year old boy, who had walked from the Newark airport, showed up at youth group in Dunellen. Allen rallied, led, and showed us what Matthew 25 looks like. Hannah, my prayers accompany you through the Valley of the Shadow. Brad Munroe, Tucson

I will always have fond memories of Pastor Allen for he has found a place in my heart eternally. We had no idea when we met that we already had a connection by way of his Aunt Ann Ruscito. She was my private art teacher when I was a teenager and lived down the street from my childhood home. I will always remember his kind words, his friendly manner, and his gentle presence. Peace be with you. May God cherish you in His heavenly home as we have here at Harvey. God speed until we meet again.
