Obituary of John Edward Johannessen
John E. Johannessen “Pookie”, 36, of Point Pleasant, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 4, 2021.
John was born and raised in Point Pleasant. He was happiest on a boat with a fishing pole in hand, watching football and rooting against whatever team you wanted to win, or dancing to some of the best 80-90’s music! John was a big flirt with an even bigger personality, accompanied by a huge heart and an infectious smile that could light up any room. If you were lucky enough to know John, he left his mark on your heart.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, John and Shirley Johannessen; cousin, Daryl; and his uncle, Norman.
Surviving are his maternal grandparents, and the glue that has held us together, Edward and Emma (Jo) Connors; his parents, John Johannessen and Kimberly Hilling (Connors) and her partner, James Paone, all of Point Pleasant; his two sisters, Laci Van Demark and her husband, Drew of Point Pleasant and Shelbi Hilling-Slattery and her husband, Shayne of Farmingdale; two brothers, Robert (Bobby) and Ryan Johannessen of Howell; and two nieces, Kristi and Brooke Van Demark of Point Pleasant, who were the light of his life! Also surviving is stepdad, Chuck Hilling of Point Pleasant; Aunt Debbie (Sarah & Danny) of Toms River, Uncle Dave and Aunt Elaine (David and Paul) of Upstate NY; Uncle Eddie (Tiffany, Randi, Sandi, Mandee, and Eddie) of Toms River; Uncle Frank and Aunt Dena (Frank, Britney, and Blake) of Sea Girt; Aunt Dawn (Jay, Bryan, Jesica, and Amber) of Point Pleasant; and Uncle Greg (Sadi) of Point Pleasant; a HUGE extended family; and twenty plus cousins, who were the center of his universe; as well as many dear friends from the ARC of Ocean County and Lakeview School.
Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 8 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. Cremation will be private and a memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made, in John’s name, to Saint Gregory’s Pantry, 804 Bay Avenue, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742.
