Obituary of John J. Carr, Jr.

John J. Carr, Jr., 56, of Brick, is so loved.  He was loved thoroughly during his lifetime by friends, family, and loved ones, too numerous to count.  He is mourned profoundly since his passing at home on Sunday, July 18, 2021.  

Born in Seaford, NY, John grew up fishing with his father, John J. Carr, Sr., who predeceased him. His loving mother Helen Carr grieves the loss of her only son and his mother-in-law Dolores Petrosillo, who loved him at first site.  

John lived in Bayville before moving to Brick twenty years ago.  He worked on Wall Street in NYC as a stockbroker prior to becoming FedEx Ground owner/operator for more than ten years. He ended his truck driving career at ADC in 2019.

John’s love for sports began in New York - go Yankees!  He also loved football, Washington (formerly the Redskins) to be precise.  John was a star player of football throughout his school years and an avid softball player for 25+ years where he created many lifetime friendships.

John’s son, J.C., meant everything to him, and he was immeasurably proud of his accomplishments on and off rugby field.  J.C. is a practicing chiropractor in NJ and will marry his fiancé, Christy Silk, next month.

John’s life changed forever when met Lisa, his angel on earth and the love of his life.  He gained a son Kyle Matthews who he adored and helped raise to be the responsible man he is today. He loved to participate in all his football activities when in school and was so proud of his accomplishments in life.

John’s sons will carry on his legacy of love and acceptance with the gifts he gave them – respect, humility, caring, courage, and joy.

John and Lisa had many adventures but cherished the time they spent in Montauk and Maui most of all.   

If you knew him, you know what I mean when I say, “that John Carr smile.”  Though a hulking, bear of a man, one who might appear imposing if you did not know him, John’s smile let you know you were one of his people, and you were so loved.  The joy of his smile and embrace was so pure.   

John’s life was too short and, in this last year, though marred by pain and struggle his spirit still shined bright.  We know he is at peace with the angels now.

We will celebrate his life from 4 - 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 27 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.
