Obituary of James McGowan

James William McGowan, 91, formerly of Monroe Township, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret Mary McGowan, his sister Marie and brother Joseph. Jimmy was born in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Mary McGowan and was raised in Queens. Jimmy was a proud Army Veteran who served two years in the Finance Corps during the Korean War. After graduating from New York University, he worked 42 years at New York Life Insurance Company where he met his wife Peggy. They married and moved to Hillsdale where they raised their four children. Jimmy was a member of Saint John the Baptist Church Parish Council for many years. Upon retirement, he moved with his wife to The Ponds Retirement Community where they had many friends and where they were honorary members of the Italian Club. Jimmy and Peggy traveled all over the globe. They enjoyed many cruises and visits to over 60 countries. He told his family often that he lived a wonderful life.

Jimmy was the beloved and devoted husband of Margaret Mary McGowan, whom he was married to for fifty-five years. He was the loving father of Jacqueline Guerra and her husband Dean, Jeanne Honan and her husband Steve, James McGowan and his wife Katie and Margaret Logan. He was the proud grandfather of Tara and her fiancé Brandon, Andrew and Danielle Guerra, Gary, Kyle and Evan Hovsepian and his fiancé Michelle, Aiden Honan, Quinn Zahn and Erin, Kyleigh and Dylan McGowan.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 20 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.
