


Obituary of Joseph H. Johnson
Joseph Holmes Johnson of Point Pleasant, NJ was called home on January 27, 2023. He is survived by his son Joseph and his wife Rose Ann Johnson, and his daughter Kathryn and her husband Gregory Cummings as well as his three grandchildren, Jessica and Joseph Johnson and Christopher Cummings. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Catherine Thoennes, as well as both of his parents, Margaret Bills and J. Holmes Johnson.
Joe was born in 1943 in Lakewood, NJ. Graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from Monmouth College and Master’s Degree from Newark State College, Joe was a school teacher for 25 years at Hoffman High School in South Amboy, NJ. Joe taught English/Literature in addition to being a Driver’s Education instructor. Later in life, he began a second career as a realtor for 35 years at Diane Turton’s Bay Head Office and was an adjunct professor at Ocean County College. He was also a devout member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Point Pleasant Beach and served for many years as a Eucharistic minister and volunteer in the church community. He was also a passionate pet lover, owning many cats and dogs in his life. A lover of traveling, he made multiple cross-country trips with his family and enjoyed going to Island Beach State Park, Chincoteague, VA and Florida. He loved going to the beach and was an avid fisherman.
Joe will be remembered most by the many friends and family who loved him for his kindness and compassion. He will be greatly missed by all whom he impacted in life.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10 a.m., Thursday, February 2, Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 406 Forman Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, followed by interment at Saint Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.
