Obituary of Veronica C. Reed
Veronica "Ronnie" Reed, of Brick, passed away on February 9, 2023 at Jersey Shore Medical Center with her family by her side. She lived for 97 wonderful years. Ronnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a nurse and a talented artist. She will be missed dearly by those who loved her.
Ronnie was born in 1926 to Harry and Genevieve (Sullivan) LaMountain. She and her three siblings grew up in Newark, NJ. She met William "Herb" Reed in Newark and they married in 1947. Together they raised four children, Barbara DiCorcia, Richard Reed, Kimberly O'Hara, and Patricia Reed in their home on Broad Street in Manasquan.
Ronnie and her late husband, Herb, enjoyed getting dolled up and dancing the night away at Doolan's in Spring Lake. Ronnie had a taste for French cuisine and was known to whip up delicacies like escargot and frog legs for her family. She loved a good “picture,” a good book, and a good joke.
After raising children, Ronnie pursued a nursing degree. She graduated with honors and worked as a nurse at Point Hospital and then Brick Hospital for several years before retiring to New Bern, NC, where she and Herb enjoyed playing golf and going on cruises. Ronnie and Herb eventually moved back to Point Pleasant, and years later she settled in Greenbriar in Brick.
Ronnie was a talented artist and showered her family and friends with homemade crafts. Ronnie could make a Santa out of anything. The beach provided endless shells for inspiration. Ronnie painted wooden St. Nicks with an old-world charm, and used her power saw into her 90s. She also knitted beautiful blankets for everyone she loved, most recently her great grandchildren. Her family and friends are blessed to have so many treasured keepsakes.
Ronnie lived independently until her last days. When Covid hit, she got to work sewing masks for hospital staff. She swore the secret to her good health was cod liver oil and a daily bowl of oatmeal with fresh blueberries.
Ronnie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Herb Reed; her siblings, Daniel “Danny” LaMountain and Doris Ann LaMountain Hickey Brett; her brother-in-law, Anton Shiffenhaus; and many dear friends. She leaves behind a family of loving children, including: Barbara DiCorcia and fiance, William Palmer; Richard and Jane Reed; Kimberly and Kevin O’Hara, and Patricia Reed; grandchildren, Desiree and Alice DiCorcia; Daniel DiCorcia; Brianna and Christopher Snel, Brendan O’Hara, and Sarah and Sterling Winkler; her beloved great-grandchildren; her treasured sister, Joan Shiffenhaus; and several dear nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Veronica “Ronnie” Reed will be held at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manasquan, NJ on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11 am.
