Obituary of Betty Gahr

Betty (Betsy) Gahr, 87, widow of Richard Gahr, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023 at her home in Lakewood. 

Born August 23, 1935, in Elizabeth, Mrs. Gahr was the daughter of the late, Kenneth and Dorothy Apgar. She completed her education at Glassboro College where she met her husband, Richard. Afterwards, Richard and Betsy eventually settled down in Point Pleasant.  This town is where they would raise their son, Joel and spend the better part of their impressive sixty years of marriage, as well as Betsy would have an amazing career spanning over three decades as a teacher at Nellie Bennett Elementary School a job of which she truly loved.

Betsy loved traveling the world, quilting, hunting the shoreline for sea-glass and shells, shopping her favorite local shops always waiting to find a good bargain, and above all else spending quality time with her family.

Betsy is survived by her son Joel Gahr and his wife, Theresa, of Point Pleasant; grandson, Kenneth Gahr and his wife, Megan, of Point Pleasant; and her beloved two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and William. She asks you to also remember her late sister, Eunice and her family, as well as her late husband, Richard and his family.

Services and inurnment in Brielle are private.
