Obituary of Helen M. Clayton

Helen May Clayton, 86, of Manchester, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Ocean Medical Center under hospice care and was surrounded by her family and her cat, Harley.

 

Born to William Albert and Dorothy May Brower of Brick, she was a longtime resident of Point Pleasant.  Helen attended Point Pleasant Beach High School until the tenth grade.  She married the love of her life Ralph J. Clayton in September of 1952 and they raised five children in Point Pleasant.

 

Helen was employed by Point Pleasant Borough Schools as an assistant cook at Ocean Road School from 1974 to 1980.  She also was employed by Point Pleasant and Brick Hospitals in the Central Supply Department.  Helen and Ralph moved to Forked River, and then to Onancock, VA, and Painter, VA.  She was a member of the Holies Baptist Church, where she played the piano for services and made many friends.  She was also employed by the Hermitage Care Center driving residents to and from appointments. In 2018, Helen and Ralph moved back to Cedar Glen, Manchester to be near their family.

 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly sixty-eight years, Ralph J. Clayton; son, Scott Clayton; daughter, Sharon Clayton, and granddaughter, Amber MacPherson.

Surviving are two sons, Bryan Clayton and his wife, Dana of Manahawkin and Gary Clayton of Tacoma, WA; and daughter, Merrilee Clayton of Lanoka Harbor.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jessica, Sean, Nicole, Skylyn, Rick, Courtney, and Kiera; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Katelyn, Gavin, Phoebe, and Ethan; and sister, Joyce Elmer of NC.
