Obituary of Susan L. Herman
Susan Layton Dempsey Herman, 92, of Point Pleasant Beach passed away, Sunday, September 3, 2023. A lifelong resident of Point Pleasant Beach, she was born in Spring Lake in 1930, the daughter of the late, Ernest and Susan DeVoe.
Susan was predeceased by her husband, Stewart J. “Red” Dempsey and recently by her second husband, Edward J. Herman. She is survived by her sons, Wayne Dempsey, Philomath, Oregon, and his wife, Moira, and Guy Dempsey, Point Pleasant Beach, and his wife, Carol; three grandchildren, Maeve, Melissa Miller and her husband, Stephen, and Christopher; three great-grandchildren, Claire, Piper, and Emma; two step-children, Nicholee Valentine, and Kurt Herman, and one step-grandson, Garret Valentine.
After graduating from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1948 Susan worked locally as a secretary for the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach and as an office manager for an eye doctor.
Susan took great pleasure in baking and sewing. Susan could take any seed and within a short amount of time grow it into a thriving, blooming plant. While Susan visited Vermont in the summer, Florida in the winter, and cruising in the Caribbean, she was the happiest being home in Point Pleasant Beach. One of her proudest accomplishments was being a Charter Member of the Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company No. 2, Ladies Auxiliary.
Memorial visitation will be held from 4 - 6 p.m., Thursday, September 14 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road.
