Obituary of Leonard Gliatta

LEONARD GLIATTA, 69, of Fort Pierce, FL, formerly of POINT PLEASANT, passed away on Tuesday, December 16th, at the Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville. Son of the late Louis and Fay DePeri Gliatta, he was raised in Garfield, where he was a graduate of Garfield High School. He later resided in Point Pleasant and has lived in Fort Pierce since 1996. A retired electrician, Mr. Gliatta was a member of and worked for the I.B.E.W., Local No. 164, Jersey City for forty-eight years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Italian-American Club; the Knights of Columbus; the B.P.O. Elks; the L.O.O. Moose; and was a past president of the Bay Head Shores Property Owners Association. An avid NASCAR fan, he also enjoyed handgun range shooting and traveling. He was a proud member of a private club called "The Kids" which were classmates from elementary school through high school in Garfield, which met socially throughout the year. He was predeceased by his wife, of forty-two years, Barbara Takacs Gliatta in 2005. Surviving to cherish his memory are his daughters, Robin Savage and her husband Scott of Toms River and Michele Amar and her husband Joe of Ormond Beach, FL; his son, Louis Gliatta and his wife Kelly of Toms River; his sister, Antonia Gliatta of Tinton Falls; and his girlfriend, Joanne Murch of Bloomfield. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Anna, Arielle, Sharone, Yoni, Daniel, Sarah, Mendy, and Moshe; many dear friends; and his dog, Gabby. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., Friday at THE PABLE - EVERTZ FUNERAL HOME OF POINT PLEASANT, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 9:30 a.m., Saturday, services will be held, at the funeral home, followed by entombment at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Saddle Brook. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to either the Jersey Shore Animal Center, 185 Brick Blvd., Brick, NJ 08723 or to Saint Gregory's Pantry, 804 Bay Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742, are suggested.
