Obituary of Alfred C. Crannell

ALFRED C. CRANNELL, of Greenbriar I, BRICK, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in his home surrounded by those he loved. Born in Elizabeth on May 25, 1929, Al graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth and also attended Newark College of Engineering. He married Lois Bennett Crannell on June 12, 1948. The couple were married for sixty years. Lois passed away on November 23, 2008. Al worked for Worthington Pump Corporation, East Orange, and retired as the supervisor of material control. He also worked, with his daughter Alyson, for Briggs Transportation, Point Pleasant Beach, as a school bus aide. He was a member and past president of the Greenbriar Kiwanis and was awarded the George F. Hixson Fellowship for his service. He also was a member of the Greenbriar Bowling League and the Durand Lodge No. 179, F. & A. M. Al is survived by three daughters, Susan Crannell of New Mexico; Alyson Swetits and her husband Pete; and Beth Crannell, all of Point Pleasant. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Colleen Crannell, also of Point Pleasant, who was married to Lois and Alfred's son, David Crannell, who predeceased his father. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Vincent Julian, Ryan & Devin Crannell, Peter, Matthew, Caitlin, and Robert Swetits; and one great-grandson, David Julian, all of Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m., Thursday at THE PABLE - EVERTZ FUNERAL HOME OF POINT PLEASANT, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 11 a.m., Friday services will be held at the funeral home with Pastor John Helm, presiding. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle. His grandsons and great-grandson will be his pallbearers.
