Obituary of Thomas W. McNamara

THOMAS W. McNAMARA, 83, of BRICK, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at home. Born in Lyndhurst, to the late Daniel and Sarah Dungan McNamara, he lived there and in Rutherford, residing in Brick for fourteen years. A United States Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr. McNamara was in the European and Pacific Theatres and served aboard the USS Turner; the USS Martin H. Ray; and the USS Beatty. He worked as an iron worker and was a member of the Wood, Wire, and Metallic Lathers International Union Local No. 46, New York, retiring in 1992. Mr. McNamara was a member of both the Rutherford and Brick Lodges of the B.P.O. Elks; was a Disabled American Veteran; and enjoyed his USS Beatty reunions, which he helped coordinate. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-seven years, Betty Sue Hagan McNamara; three children, Kevin McNamara and his wife Deborah of Rio Vista, CA, Colleen Gordon and her husband Craig of Brick, and Daniel McNamara of Nashville, TN; his sister, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Neary; two grandchildren, Timothy McNamara and Allyn Ann McNamara; his niece, Mary Beth Robert; and his nephew, Peter Athas. Friends may visit from 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m., Tuesday at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, where at 8:30 p.m. a service will be held. Inurnment at the BGWCD Veterans Cemetery is pending. As an expression of sympathy, donations made in his memory to either the ALS Foundation, One Riverview Plaza, Red Bank, NJ 07701 or Compassionate Care Hospice, 11 Independence Way, Newark, DE 19713, are suggested.
