Obituary of James J. Matouk

REV. JAMES JACOB MATOUK, 86, of POINT PLEASANT BEACH, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 29, 2009, at his home. Born on April 2, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Louis and Lillian Matouk, he had lived in South River and has resided in Point Pleasant Beach since 1984. A World War II, United States Army Air Corps veteran, he was a graduate of Adelphi College, Garden City, NY and received a Bachelor in Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. For over twenty years, Rev. Matouk served, with his wife Evelyn, as a missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship, Middlesex County, retiring as director. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Point Pleasant Beach, since 1985. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, of fifty-one years, Evelyn Hartdorn Matouk; a brother, Fred Matouk and a sister, Dr. Marion Landon. He will also be missed by the many children he taught through the years. Friends may visit from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p .m., Tuesday at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, a service, officiated by Pastor John Helm, will be held at the funeral home, followed by interment at the Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. As an expression of sympathy, contributions made in his memory to either the Child Evangelism Fellowship, Tri-M County Chapter, PO Box 218, New Egypt, NJ 08533 or to the First Baptist Church, 708 McLean Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742, are suggested.
