Obituary of Joseph E. Monahan

Joseph E. "Bob" Monahan, 85, of Lakewood, passed away on Wednesday, June 10 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood after a short illness. Mr. Monahan was born in Newark and resided in Livingston and West Palm Beach, FL before moving to Lakewood last year. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II achieving the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Monahan was a Newark Firefighter for thirty-three years. He retired in 1984 and moved to West Palm Beach, Florida where he had been president of the Pine Ridge Condo Association. He remained active with all aspects of the association until last year. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus #3197, Hillside and the NJ Police and Firemen's Association, Ocean County Local #8. Mr. Monahan was predeceased by his loving wife, Elizabeth in 1977 and his companion, Elizabeth Sheridan in 2006. He was the loving father to Robert Monahan and his wife, Joan of Point Pleasant, his daughter, Letticia Farrell and her husband, Robert also of Point Pleasant and his daughter, Coleen Henry of Brick. He was grandfather to Matt, Danielle, Patrick, Kacey, Doug, Kaitlyn, Sean, Brian, Lisa, Janine and Peter. He is also survived by his brothers Vincent and his wife, Helen of Hasbrouck Heights, and James and his wife Pat of Spotswood; his sister Dolores Mantz and her husband Joe of South Plainfield; and his sisters-in-law, Joan Monahan of Toms River and Laureen and Tony Holub of Livingston. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 15 at 11:00 am at St. Martha's Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant. Friends may call at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
