Obituary of William A. Samler

WILLIAM A. SAMLER, 74, of POINT PLEASANT, passed away, Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Teaneck, to the late Valentine and Margaret (Quinn) Samler, he was raised in Ridgefield Park and had lived in Point Pleasant since 1955. A United States Army veteran, Mr. Samler worked as a long time, self-employed carpenter known as "Bill the Carpenter." He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Point Pleasant Lodge and formerly was a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Point Pleasant. A past-president and coach for the Point Pleasant Soccer Club, he also had coached baseball and served on the Point Pleasant Recreation Committee. An avid fisherman, he also liked to play golf. Predeceased by his brother, Valentine "Buzzy" Samler, surviving are two sons, Larry Samler and David Samler and his wife Nancy, all of Point Pleasant; his daughter, Terry Stephenson and her husband Donald of Brick; his brother, Tommy Samler and his wife Diana; his sister, Betty Truex and her husband Jimmy; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Cory, David, Andrew, Tyler, and Sean. Friends may visit from 12 Noon - 3 p.m., Sunday at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, where at 3 p.m. a service will be held. Cremation will be held privately.
