Obituary of John S. Sendzik

John Stephen Sendzik, 95, of Brick, passed away, Friday, July 24, 2009 at Laurelton Village Care Center. Born in Brooklyn, to the late Stephen and Katherine Sendzik, he was a life long area resident. John was a World War II veteran and served in the US Navy as a medic attached to the US Marine Corps. He was stationed in Philadelphia, Paris Island, SC, and Treasure Island, Oakland, CA. A retired self employed builder and contractor in both Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant Borough, John also worked for the US Postal Service in Brick and as a dental corpsman and later technician, specializing in gold bonding at Camp Evans, Wall Twp. He was a member, past-president, and captain of the Point Pleasant Beach First Aid Squad; member of the NJ State First Aid Council; honorary member of the Rhode Island Public Health Service; and was one of the founding members of the International Rescue and First Aid Squad. John also had been a member of the Brick Township Planning Board and served on the Brick Board of Education, where in 1960 he was president. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph; and by his sisters, Veronica Fish and Catherine Williams. Surviving are his beloved wife, of sixty-six years, Jane Foust Sendzik; two sons, Jon Sendzik and Richard Sendzik, both of Brick; his granddaughter, Adrian McDonald of Brick; three great-grandchildren, William, Amanda, and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews throughout the country. Friends may visit from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Sunday at the Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road, where at 3:30 p.m. a service will be held. Cremation will be held privately. As an expression of sympathy, contributions made in his memory to either the Herbertsville First Aid Squad, 375 Herbertsville Rd., Brick, NJ 08724 or the Point Pleasant Beach First Aid Squad, Laurel Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742, are suggested.
