Obituary of Robert N. Shannon

Robert N. Shannon, 97, of Brick passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Ocean Medical Center. Robert was born in Manhattan, NY, February 22, 1918 to William & Ethel Shannon. During WWII Robert enlisted in the Marines and saw heavy action on Okinawa. After the war he met the love of his life, Adeline Kern and they were married Dec. 6, 1952. They lived in NYC, Ocean Grove, NJ and later came to Brick. Bob worked as a "black seal" building engineer both in NYC and Ocean Grove. He worked at the Methodist Home and later the Neptune Middle School. Bob loved children and he made plaster plaque gifts for hundreds of kids. Bob had a beautiful voice and he sang the Cradle Song to 32 babies as they were dedicated in Church. Many years ago Bob and Adeline were involved in teaching Sunday School, volunteering with Scouts and in the Laurelton and Midstreams schools. Bob was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Laurelton. Bob was Past Commander of the Arrowhead Memorial Post 5698 VFW, past president of AARP and Old Guard of Brick and in 1982 Robert and Adeline were Citizen of the Year. Bob was well known for his witty jokes and poetry. He was encouraging and loving to all he met. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Adeline, his parents, and four brothers. One brother Joseph Shannon (Texas) and many dear friends survive him. A Memorial Service for Robert will be held at the First Baptist Church of Laurelton, Wed., Sept. 30 at 11 AM, with Rev. H. Regine Harding and Rev. Santiago Norori officiating. Burial will be in the Laurelton Baptist Cemetery.
