To the family of Doc Holly:
I taught with Bob at Manasquan HS for over 20 yrs. Great man, always stood for strong positive morals. An excellent debater when confronted.
One summer in the mid 80's Doc & I painted for the school district and spent many hours in the heat painting the exterior of the IA building. I will miss him.

I took Dr Holly's history class at MHS around 1974. A great teacher who had a passion for the subject and really knew how to command your attention.
I am very sorry for your loss

"When I become emperor", Doc would say. We all put down our pens because we knew 'the speech' was coming. "There won't be school on Monday because we all know you're recovering from the weekend. There will be a half day on Tuesday (cause that's all we could manage...still recovering), a full day on Wednesday, and a half a day of school on Thursday (cause our minds are already focused on the weekend activities). There will be no school on Friday because we all know you're gearing up for the weekend." My children have heard that story over the years and we're all waiting for Emperor Holly to take his rightful place and rule the world. He was a great teacher. He always talked about his love of country and community. He very rarely spoke about his family...but when he did it was with love and kindness. He always talked about his gold car and his red, white and blue house....more symbols of a patriotic man. Having an uncle who died on the field of battle in World War II, I loved to listen to Doc's stories and views on the way things 'should' be…according to him. I think deep down… He really was a comedian at heart.
To Doc's family and friends: You have my deepest condolences. I am truly sorry for your loss. He is a man that will be greatly missed. I wish my children had the opportunity to meet him and have him as a teacher. I am blessed to have known him and will carry this story of him with me always.

Doc Holly, as so many of his students at Manasquan dearly referred to him, was a leader amoung men. His teachings help mold so many and even today he is referred to and referenced in conversations. As one of his students in the 70's I can remember his classes vividly. A stern teacher that took no bull from any of his students but was also there as a mentor and always available to rely on for help.
He will be missed by me and remembered fondly. My sincerest and deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Doc Holly. Doc was probably the most memorable teacher I had at MHS, tough but with a true passion for both his subject and his students. I will always remember the many, many things I learned from him. RIP Doc, my prayers are with you all.

I remember Mr. Holly more as my JV wrestling coach in high school than as a teacher. None the less, he made a significant impact on my life. I have mentioned to many people about how he'd work on our strength and conditioning along with teaching a bunch of young boys the keys to good wrestling. I felt more alive following one of his workouts and wrestling against the varsity wrestlers. I was able to concentrate on my homework and actually get it done without procrastinating. I attribute much of my good health to Mr. Holly, although I've not been in the best of condition all my life, I've been able to return to the gym and once again feel much of that same self confidence and strength Mr. Holly instilled in me when I was just a junior in high school (1968). It's true, when you have your health, you have everything. Thank you Mr. Holly for setting me on the right path to good health. It's not something I take lightly. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

Mr. Holly was a great teacher. Demanding with a good sense of humor and an easy smile. It was because of teachers like Mr. Holly that so many of us went into education ourselves. Thank you for sharing him with all of his students.
