Obituary of Linda Smith Gahr

Linda Smith Gahr, 80, passed away on June 26, 2017, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey with her daughters at her side. Born in Orange NJ to Andrew and Mary Chambers Smith, Linda grew up in Spring Lake Heights and graduated from Manasquan High School in 1954. That same year, she married the love of her life Ronald Gahr. Ron and Linda moved to Point Pleasant and raised four children. In 1973, Linda went back to school and achieved her goal of becoming a nurse. She worked at Point Pleasant Hospital. In their retirement, they became "snowbirds" traveling between their homes in Lakewood and Lake Worth, Florida, played countless tennis matches and rounds of golf, cruised the Caribbean (among many other trips they enjoyed together), and truly loved each other and life together. She was a dedicated sister, wife, mother, friend, nurse, and Mema. She was a talented seamstress, made the best lemon meringue pie, and loved giving out gifts on her own birthday. She mastered the art of letter writing, could stump anyone in Mets trivia, loved Thanksgiving, could always pull off an April Fool's Day joke, and enjoyed golf, Bridge, game shows and crossword puzzles. She never forgot a birthday and never turned down an invitation to spend time with her family. She passed knowing that she was loved and appreciated for being a wonderful mother and the best Mema. While she will be greatly missed, her legacy of love and generosity will live on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the heart of her family. Linda is predeceased by her devoted husband, Ronald Gahr and her sisters Nancy Purcell and Sally Reeves. She leaves behind a large and loving family: her son, Kenneth Gahr and his wife, Donna; her daughters: Patricia Nase and her husband Alan, Pamela Harris and her husband Bruce, and Penny Munsie and her husband Ralph; nine grandchildren: Eric, Melissa, Scott, Bryanne, Paul, Amy, Amanda, Jeffrey and Brian; numerous great grandchildren; her siblings, Susan Feeney, Sharon Kennedy and her husband Robert, and Andrew "Pete" Smith and his wife Donna; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m., Thursday, June 29 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. In lieu of flowers, "Pay it Forward."
