To Bob's Family: So sorry to hear of Bob's passing, but he lived a rich and productive life and so many of us who knew him or worked for him were the better for it. I had the good fortune of working for Bob in the late 60's at his original Carvel store, a seminal experience in my young life. It is said that you can only make a first impression once; as my first real 'boss,' Bob impressed upon me the most important qualities of a leader: fairness, firmness, dedication, loyalty and humor. They have served me well through my life and I couldn't thank him enough. Rest in peace, Bob ... unless the fish are biting!
With great respect,
Jack McGarry

I grew up in Bergen County and spent every possible moment in Spring Lake or Point Pleasant . The day was not complete until we ended it with a trip to Hoffman’s. This became a tradition with every friend and family member that accompanied me to the shore. We would more often than not forego dinner and have Hoffman’s for dinner instead I continued this tradition with my daughter and she in turn has done the same with her friends
I can only imagine what you his cherished family must be feeling. My prayers are with you all as you get through the days ahead. May the love and memories you shared comfort you through the hard times and nay God help you through all the others.
Mr. Hoffman, thank you for providing a place that has allowed my loved ones countless happy memories . May you rest in peace.
Deborah Roche

Mr Hoffman was our neighbor since we moved here onto Oak Terrace in 2001. He was a kind and gentle man. Mr. Hoffman was always upbeat and positive, always had a smile and a hello for whomever passed by. His garden was impeccable and we always admired his spotless garage haha. After my husband had shoulder surgery and we were coming back from PT, we found Bob and another neighbor, Chad Latendorf, blowing our leaves so it was all clean and neat for us. He will be missed by all who knew him. Fondly, Wendy Gahles

We all loved going to Carvel, not just for Ice Cream but because Bob was such a role model. He always made time to chat, even though we were just kids. Bob would always ask how we were doing and got to know our interests. He genuinely cared about us and always gave good advice. We would ride our bikes and our meeting place was usually Carvel. We always knew it was a safe and friendly place to meet and hang out. Bob would have a reassuring eye on us. He's one of those men that left a mark on our live's and we will never forget him.
Bob Troy,
Class of 73

We are sorry to hear of Mr.Hoffman’s passing. Our deepest sympathy to you all.
I will always remember saving my pennies so after school at St. Peter I could get a swirl cone of the best vanilla ice cream
in the world . And if it was a flavor of the day pistachio or black raspberry was always my choice. He would serve it with a big smile
and thank you. Such good childhood memories were made there at the Carvel stand. He will be missed by so many people he has encountered but his legacy will live on.
Sincerely, Fred and Carla Gratkowski, formerly of Pt. Pleasant, now Longmont CO
