Marlene Fencik

Obituary of Marlene Fencik

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Fencik on Saturday, December 24, 2021 at age 83, after a five-year courageous battle with fourth stage Colon Cancer. She was a fighter and experienced two stages with remission and the third that was the final answer.

Marlene was born in Maywood, NJ on May 30, 1938. After high school, she was employed at the Bergen Drug Company in Hackensack, where she met the love of her life, George. They got married on May 5, 1957. George was drafted in the Army and she had an opportunity to live in Germany for fourteen months. During this time, they visited many countries across Europe and especially the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels, Belgium.  Upon returning to the US, she gave birth to their first son, Kenneth in 1959 and followed with a second son, Robert in 1962.

Marlene was an active person that loved people. She was employed at JC Penney, Stern’s, and Jones of New York. She was also a good bowler. Marlene then had an opportunity to travel with George to many prominent major conventions across the United States, Hawaii, and Jamaica. She met many performers, movie stars, and TV personalities. She treasured her photo with Cary Grant in Maui. "We were living in another world for over twenty years," was her favorite description. In her senior years, Marlene served as a volunteer at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, in the medical staff office and pre-admission testing from 2011-2020.

Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Celia D' Aitolo; sisters, Cathryn McCormick and Loretta Bingham; nephew, Robert McCormick; and brother, Edward.

She is survived by George, her loving husband of sixty-four years; sons, Kenneth and his wife, Kathryn and Robert and his wife, Cheryl; and granddaughter, Kaitlyn, all residing in Point Pleasant; and sister, Mickie Svenson in Bradenton, FL.

The family would like to thank all of the Oncology Staff at Hackensack Meridian Ocean Medical Center, Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore Medical Center, and the nurses at Care One Rehab in Wall Township for their great professional and caring services.
