Obituary of Spencer Allen Sherman

Spencer Allen Sherman, 65, of Bay Head, entered eternal rest July 22, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 20, 1948. Known as "Al" to family and friends, he was a special person who overcame the challenges of a debilitating childhood illness. Al was known and loved by many in Bay Head where he resided all his life. He was a familiar sight around town on his bike. He worked as a plumber's helper for Sherman Plumbing & Heating, at the Waterway Auto Body shop, Dorcas' of Bay Head and also worked in maintenance for the Point Pleasant Manor and Opdyke's Furniture. Al enjoyed hunting, sitting on his front porch listening to oldies on the radio and watching classic old western movies. He was a honorary life member of the Bay Head Fire Company where he faithfully served the community for many years. Al was predeceased by his mother Barbara E. Sherman. He is survived by his father Spencer I. Sherman of Bay Head, two brothers, Tyler C. Sherman and his wife Joan of Point Pleasant and Corrie E. Sherman and his wife Triche, also of Point Pleasant, and a sister, Wendy S. Deter and her husband John of Point Pleasant Beach, many nieces and nephews and his longtime friend and companion Barbara Apgar. A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church, Corner of Bridge & West Lake Avenues, Bay Head, on Saturday, August 3 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
