Obituary of Edward Beaton

Edward "Ted" Beaton, 91, Point Pleasant, a life-long resident. Born on September 12, 1922, died Thursday, September 19, 2013 Born in Gourock, Scotland, the son of David and Mary Beaton, Ted immigrated with his family to Point Pleasant, NJ in 1927. He graduated from Saint Peter's Grammar School and Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1941. Ted served in the US Army during WW II in New Guinea, the Philippines and with the occupation forces in Japan. After being discharged from the Army Ted worked in the family's boatbuilding business in West Mantoloking before working in several other fields. He managed Beaton Brother's Flooring with his brother David, was owner of Blue Jay Homes and worked as partner and co- manager of David Beaton and Sons Boatworks with his brother Lachlan until retiring. Ted was a long-time member of the Metedeconk River Yacht Club and enjoyed racing sailboats with his wife and family, trips to North Carolina, playing golf and his many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Janet and daughter Cathy Hartwyk. He was also predeceased by his brothers Lachlan, David, Peter, John and Malcolm and sisters Elizabeth and Margaret. He is survived by his daughters Sandy Frank and her husband Dick of Calabash, NC, Debby Matthews and her husband Steve of Straits, NC; son, Mark and his wife Sharpe of Point Pleasant Beach; son-in-law, Doug Hartwyk; grandchildren, Amy, Katie, Sarah, Brian, Rachel and four great-grandsons. Surviving also are his sisters, May Diebel and Catherine Westlund, in-laws and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. A celebration of Ted's life will be held at the Metedeconk River Yacht Club, Tilton Road, Brick on Saturday, October 12 at Noon.
