Obituary of Robert E. Smith, Sr.

Robert Emmit Smith, Sr., 91, of Point Pleasant, died Saturday, November 9, 2013. He was born in Newark on July 31, 1922. He graduated from West Side High School and proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He then received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Seton Hall University. He was a pharmaceutical salesman with Glaxo Smith Kline (formerly Smith, Kline, & French) for many years until his retirement. He and his wife Winifred resided, with their five children, in Madison, Morris County for twenty-six years. They retired to Point Pleasant Borough, Ocean County. He was predeceased by his wife of forty-nine years, Winifred K. Mahon Smith in 2000 and two brothers, James F. Smith and David E. Smith. He is survived by his children, Christine Masotta of Brick, James F. Smith, Sr. of West Creek, Maureen Gubelmann and her husband Bruno of Hackettstown, Diane Bourland and her husband Michael of Vienna, and Robert E. Smith, Jr. and his wife Selena of Bloomsbury; his fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sibling, Margaret Cunningham of Spring Lake Heights. At 10:30 am, Saturday, November 16 a Memorial Liturgy will be celebrated at the Church of Saint Martha, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
