Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" M. Emley

Elizabeth "Betty" McKelvey Emley, 92, of Point Pleasant, passed away, Saturday, May 24, 2014 at her home. She was born Elizabeth May McKelvey, to the late Elwood and Sarah Louise McKelvey, in Brick on March 7, 1922. She attended Point Pleasant Beach High School and was affiliated with Central United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant Beach. Betty worked for Crompton's Potato Chip Co., Manasquan, and for the A & P Food Market, Point Pleasant Beach. She retired from Shop Rite, Brielle and Brick, after twenty years as a meat wrapper. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-two years, James Allen Emley, son of the late Florence and James Emley of Point Pleasant Beach, and all of her siblings, sisters, Marjorie Dangler, Adelaide Estelle, and Catherine Gant; and brothers, Arden, Melvin, Roland, and John McKelvey. Surviving are long-time best friend and sister-in-law, Pearl McKelvey of Brick; fourteen nieces and nephews; seventeen great nieces and nephews; and twenty-one great-great nieces and nephews. The family would like to give thanks to the Clayton Avenue Ladies Club where she enjoyed being a member every Wednesday and special thanks to her live-in care giver, Sheila who gave her much love and special care for four years. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m., Thursday, May 29 at the Pable Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, 901 Beaver Dam Road. At 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 30 a service will be held at the funeral home and followed by interment at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. In lieu of flowers donations made in her memory to either the Jersey Shore Animal Center or Saint Gregory's Pantry would be appreciated.
