Obituary of Elizabeth M. Deitz

BETTYE DEITZ AGE: 88 - POINT PLEASANT BOROUGH Elizabeth "Bettye" Deitz, 88, completed her life's adventure on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. The daughter of James and Veronica McLaughlin, Bettye was born in Kingston, Pennsylvania. After completing her education, she moved to Arlington, Virginia. and worked at the newly completed Pentagon. In her spare time, she assisted at the USO. On the evening of February 15, 1944, while working as a hostess, she met Stephen. They married on October 14, 1944 and moved to Norfolk while Stephen completed his naval service. In Bettye's words "We were off to a start on our road to marital bliss". Eventually, they settled in Bergen County, New Jersey where they established a manufacturing business. Bettye balanced her secretarial and accounting responsibilities with her role as a mother of four children. The need to expand the business brought the family to the Jersey Shore in the mid-'60's. Betty was pre-deceased by Stephen, her parents James and Veronica, and her siblings Thomas, Claire and Joan. She is survived by her son James and his wife Susan, her daughter Maryann and her husband John Douglass, her son Charles and his wife Diane, and her son Stephen John and his wife Susane. She is also survived by her special niece and nephews Maura Sanger and her husband Ray, David Creedon and his wife Nancy, and Patrick Creedon. Also surviving are her grand children Kimberly Deitz-Kabbel, Kip Douglass, Chris Douglass, Laura Douglass Parsons, Charles Deitz II, Michael Deitz, Daniel Deitz, Kaitlin Deitz and Alexandra Deitz. Bettye had a special love for her great grandchildren Benjamin, Peter, Jack and Penny Rae. A Memorial Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, Forman and Saint Louis Avenues, Point Pleasant Beach on Friday, February 19 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives are asked to make a donation to Father Flanagan's Boys Town at www.boystown.org The Pable - Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, is in charge of arrangements.
